Because I'm procrastinating on NaNoWriMo. I'm soooo many words behind and I need to be done on the 27th, due to convention activities being on from the 28th to the 31st of July.

I've gotten my Yuletide assignment and am looking forward to writing it and I'm having great fun writing on my NaNoWriMo story!

It's always so encouraging to read something you yourself have written and being angry with yourself when you reach the part that hasn't been written yet because you want to read the ending XD

Just knowing how it ends isn't quite the same as reading. And who knows how the story will grow and surprise me while I write?

Hope everyone else participating in NaNo is having as much fun as I am!

Oooh, and here's the latest commission of my book characters that I indulged myself with. Made by the fantastic ladynorthstar over on tumblr.

Is anyone else signing up for a cabin this April? Anyone want to share a cabin with me?

I'm planning on getting a lot of short stories finished in April, so I'll be writing a lot of different things (obviously). Some will be in Swedish, some in English. I'm not looking for a beta reader or anything, I just like having company of the "working side by side" sort :)
nonesane: (Fear vs Sanity)
I'm finally done with the second draft of "How to Sway Them" (my NaNo project that refused to be just 50k). I'm pretty happy with it and am thinking about using the free prints I got with this November's NaNo to actually make a book out of it.

However, there are two issues:

1) It's written in English. I'm not a native speaker of English. Thus, I'm sure there's a lot of grammar/spelling/other errors I've made that I haven't caught.

2) I've read it so many times and know the characters so well, that I don't know if I've actually explained everything in a way that makes sense outside of my head.

Thus I'm looking for a beta-reader. The story is (according to Open Office) 175 857 words long. The genre is Fantasy; mostly Action/Adventure with some Romance thrown in because the characters demanded it. As for rating, I'd give it a Teen and Up, for some not-so-graphic violence and flirting/innuendo. Also, one scene with nudity.

Since this is such a monster of a task, I'll try to give something back! I sadly can't pay for an editor, since I'm an unemployed student, but you'll get these things:

1) One of the printed copies of the book. [ profile] chibiangle is making the cover, so if you don't like the story itself, the book will at least be pretty ;)

2) Thanks on the first page of the book (of course!)

3) Any editing help you need (I'll probably be more helpful when it comes to feedback concerning flow/timelines/such things, rather than spelling - though I will be on the look-out for spelling and grammar errors too).

4) Other suggestions? Again, can't afford to pay you in money, but I do write fanfiction..., anyone?
nonesane: (Bloody long book)
Well, Örncon is over (short summary: it was awesome, though tons of work), I have a cold and I'm so damn behind on August NaNo it's ridiculous! As of this moment, I have 8 878 words. I should be at 25k ;_;

But shame on those who give up! (Swedish saying). Yesterday I only had 2k, so I'm keeping good pace. If I only can keep this up unril Monday, while still making time to hang out with the family before I go back to Uppsala, I should be fine.

In short, it'll be a while before I get caught up here on livejournal. Sorry for the slowness!
nonesane: (...he is)
Well, the first draft anyways. I've been reading it to my sister and she seems to like it. Caught a few typos and odd sentences, so my poor sister has to put up with a lot of pauses for editing. I'm enjoying the story too, which I'm very pleased about. It would have been horrible if I didn't, with so much work put into it.

Sorry for spamming all the sites I'm a member of with this, but I'm so freaking happy!

And now for some Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Because I haven't seen it yet and Captain Jack Sparrow never fails to entertain me (even if the second movie was kinda crap and the third wasn't much better).

NaNo Winner June 2012

61,433 is the final word count of June! But seeing as there's still 20,5 scenes to get done, I'm joining the inofficial July Camp as well. Here's to 50 000 more words!

And here's the rest of the NaNo meme I've been doing:

Today's questions )
nonesane: (The best of plans!)
Today's questions:

If you’ve participated in or won NaNo before, what happened to your other novel efforts? Still in the revision process/querying publishers/scrapped it immediately/etc.

I participated last November and wrote the novel I'm still writing. I won in November, but the story was far from done. It's currently at about 100k+ words and there is still over 20 scenes left to write; WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

Do animals play any part in your story? If so, how do they add to it?

Not really. They show up now and then, as transportation (horses) or in flashbacks and conversations, but never more than "do you remember that parrot that shopkeeper had?" or "I'll ride this horse to this or that place". I like including animals in my stories, but this time around all my protagonists and supporting characters are humanoid.

Is religion featured in your novel at all? If so, which ones? If it’s/they’re your own creations, describe it/them and how it/they play(s) a part in your characters’ lives.

No real life religions were harmed in the making of this novel ;) Meaning no, there isn't much religion in my story and those I hint at are completely made up.

The "demons" have a very matter of fact view of the world, with surprising little interest in how the world was created and if there is a one true meaning of life. The humans in the Empire, on the other hand, are generally somewhat religious, and have always been free to worship whichever religion it pleases them to, as long as it doesn't got against the Emperor's Laws (one of the laws being: all conscenting adults of sound mind may marry).

The main characters (both human) tend to pray to undefined gods, as they themselves weren't raised in a particular religion. They sort of believe, in an absentminded fashion, that there's "something out there" that made the world and keeps it running, but they haven't bothered narrowing it down to a certain being. They simply figure at least one of the worships must have gotten it right and just pray to whatever deity might be listening.

The humans outside of the Empire have all manner of religions, but since they don't show up in the current novel, I haven't bothered defining them yet.

Today's questions:

Which authors or books have inspired your own writing the most, and why?

Uhm, all of them? I honestly don't think I've ever ready a story that I haven't learned something from, when it comes to my own writing. This goes for books that I've liked and those I've disliked equally.

If you could meet one fictional character from any book you’ve ever read, who would it be, and why?

Nyargh, so hard to choose! Only getting to pick from books narrows it down a bit, but still...

Seeing as I'm currently rereading Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett, maybe I'll go with Granny Weatherwax. She's an awesome witch; I'm going to be just like her when I grow up!

With about 10 days left to this arguably traumatic experience, what are your plans and goals for your novel, should you successfully complete it?

I'm planning on posting it online somewhere; maybe here, maybe as an ebook. We'll see. But what I'll definitely do, once it's edited and proofread a few times, is to print one physical copy of it. Just so I can have one book that's actually written by me in my bookshelf. [ profile] chibiangle has promised to draw the cover :D

But that's far away. My never-ending-novel, as I've come to call it, what with it being over 100k long and there still being 26 scenes left to finish ;_; I doubt it'll be done come July, even if I without a doubt will pass the 50k limit (I'm currently at 43k).
